Mary J. Herron

Mary Josephine Herron, age 87, of Valley Stream, NY passed away in the morning of January 13, 2020.

Mary, daughter of the late Joseph and Marie Flanagan, was born April 19, 1932, in East Orange, New Jersey. She grew up in Baisley Park, NY eventually settling in Valley Stream in 1957 after marrying her childhood sweetheart James J. Herron, upon his return from US Naval Service.

She was lovingly devoted to her husband of 62 years and their four children Mary, Eileen, Maureen and James. She was blessed with ten grandchildren Emily, Hannah, Megan, Shannon, Kelly, Erin, Grace, Elizabeth, Michael and Sarah who will miss her dearly.

Mary was awarded a scholarship to the Fashion Institute of Technology but her career took a different path when she joined the publicity department at Pan American Airlines.  Her love for travel grew and this career allowed her make many trips to one of her favorite places in the world, Ireland, which she visited often, including on their honeymoon.   Mary and Jim were also fortunate enough to be able to take many memorable cruises together.

Mary was an avid gardener, working tirelessly at her home in Valley Stream and her upstate summer home in Worcester, NY.  She loved to read and had an impressive knowledge of US and world history as well as current events.  Mary was a devout Catholic who instilled a strong sense of love, faith and values to her family.  She had a love for all animals, especially dogs, and would for most of her life have a faithful collie by her side. 

Mary was an outstanding example of a wife, mother, grandmother and friend and will be sincerely missed by all who knew and loved her.
